R Baker (Electrical) Ltd has a dedicated in-house hazardous area product manufacturing team. We design and manufacture an extensive range of ATEX certified control panels and distribution panels. Our equipment is utilised in gas and dust hazardous areas.
The ATEX Directive has increased the demand for custom solutions in many process industries. This is particularly the case in petrochemical, pharmaceutical and oil & gas.
Our range of panels are custom made to meet your specific requirements and are CE marked to the ATEX Directive for safe use in Zones 1 and 2.
ATEX Panel Design
Our hazardous area team will liaise with you to determine the specific ATEX zone and electrical requirements. This will determine the panel design and enclosure specification.
ATEX Enclosure Type
We offer a range of Exd solutions, as well as custom built solutions. We offer a variety of sizes to suit every purpose, with a choice of either hinged (EJB) or threaded (GUB) lids. Our standard range of panels are housed in aluminium alloy or stainless steel enclosure.
Lead Times
We offer short lead times for intrinsically safe and explosion proof equipment. However; due to the manufacturing processes this can be longer than our standard lead times.
ATEX Standards
Our flameproof Exd Zone 1 and 2 enclosures are all approved to ATEX, IECEx & GOST approvals. Furthermore; have EC declarations of conformity, safety manuals and mechanical drawings.

FAQ’s
Here you will find answers for frequently asked questions about ATEX equipment.
Where are we based?
We are proud to be an independent British company who was founded in 1982.
What standards do we work to?
We work to all international standards. This includes ATEX, IECEx & GOST approvals, while also providing EC declarations of conformity.
What is ATEX?
ATEX is the name commonly given to the two European Directives for controlling explosive atmospheres:
Directive 99/92/EC (also known as ‘ATEX 137’ or the ‘ATEX Workplace Directive’) are the minimum requirements for improving the health and safety protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.
Directive 94/9/EC (also known as ‘ATEX 95’ or ‘the ATEX Equipment Directive’) are the approximation of the laws of Members States concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Is there a minimum order?
No. Through experience and innovation we are able to offer custom built solutions no matter how many are required.
What is a Hazardous Area?
Explosive atmospheres can be caused by flammable gases, mists or vapours or by combustible dusts. Explosions can cause loss of life and serious injuries.
Electrical markings
Compliance with the ATEX Directive is a legal requirement in all European Union Member States since 1st July 2003. All equipment manufactured for use in Hazardous Areas must be ATEX certified in order to carry the ‘CE Mark’. (CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer that the product meets all the appropriate provisions of the relevant legislation implementing certain European Directives.) Equipment which is fully compliant with the relevant standards will also include the Hexagon symbol. The affixing of this symbol enables the equipment to be sold and installed freely in Europe.
